How Long Does It Take to Become a Certified Medical Coder?

Becoming a certified medical coder takes usually a few months to some years depending on the course one opts for and the amount of time one can dedicate to the course. For most, this process starts by registering in a medical coding course. The certification exams themselves usually last about 5 hours to complete, and candidates will be required to prove how well they can assign codes that are accurate based on medical records.
